So many people are surprised to find that replacement projection lamps are quite expensive. There’s always the super sleuth who says you can go online and quickly search for “replacement lamp projector XYZ” and find that $500 lamp for $95.00.  Too good to be true?  YOU BET!  One of our biggest sorrows in this industry is explaining to clients that the knock off after market lamps are a WASTE OF MONEY (and a very risky move). But, as most of you know, it’s a losing battle — unless or until you’ve experienced the pain and suffering of having one of these knock off cheap-o lamps burn out in the first 10 hours (and the seller won’t replace it), have terrible lumen quality, or even EXPLODE inside the projector damaging your investment (and likely voiding your warranty!!! … oh and that pesky mercury).

BUT, don’t fret. We have all the information and solutions to get you the correct lamp at a reasonable price without the worry.

TERMINOLOGY:

Term What it means
thumbsdown COMPATIBLE This is a lamp that is not made by one of the 7 reputable lamp manufacturers. It will void an existing warranty if installed in your projector and malfunctions or causes damage. You will see a decrease in image and brightness quality, and it will likely burn out much sooner. DO NOT BUY THIS.
thumbsdown AFTER MARKET Similar to a “compatible” lamp, some vendors use this term. You need to do more research, but it’s likely this is NOT a good option to buy. Remember, if the price is too good to be true, it probably is. Refer to “COMPATIBLE” above
thumbsup OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer/ed. This is a lamp that is from or exactly identical to, the ORIGINAL manufacturer provided lamp. This is the ONLY lamp that is guaranteed by each respective projector manufacturer to be authorized for use in their projector.
thumbsup DIAMOND LAMP This is the ONLY good alternative to OEM on the market. These lamps are actually OEM lamps, sourced by this company and distributed. They carry the same if not a better warranty than OEM. Read more here.

RE-LAMPED A relamped lamp is a lamp chassis (or plastic casing) that has been recycled from an old lamp and used to re-house a new lamp. Most often, a re-lamped lamp will be utilizing and OEM lamp in a used chassis. Use caution, but don’t dismiss.
DISCLAIMER: Digital Communications & Display, LLC always recommends purchasing OEM lamps as your best option. We will never suggest using anything other than an OEM lamp in a projector that has it’s manufacturers’ warranty in-tact. Once your projector is no longer warranted under the standard manufacturers warranty, we highly recommend saving some money and using Diamond Lamps. We will NEVER recommend, nor sell, any after market/knock off “compatible” lamp.
